The Librarian and the Author

Here's the way to think about it that survives long after this lesson:

A librarian character holding an open book, with a stack of existing books beside her

Traditional AI is a librarian: it finds the right book that already exists.

An author character writing with a glowing quill, sparks flying off the nib, with a stack of blank pages beside him

Generative AI is an author: it writes a brand-new book on the spot.
